aaaaaaaaaa

Just spotted another nice Dezaki anime reference in Kill la Kill: Ashita no Joe. Well, technically the manga came first, but it’s clear that the anime is what left a huge mark on Imaishi & co.

In Ashita no Joe, during the prison arc, Danpei trains a short, weak, cowardly, skinny dude named Aoyama extensively. Aoyama becomes so strong that he nearly kicks Joe’s ass, forcing him to “level up”, so to speak, by finally adopting a defensive stance.

In KLK we have a short, super-strong boxer that forces Ryuuko to switch to her/Senketsu’s ‘super form’ for the first time.
